Truffles, Dogs, & a 2003 Chiara Boschis Cannubi

I had the pleasure of previewing THE TRUFFLE HUNTERS film and organizing an at-home viewing party for members of The Napa Valley Reserve, which I was fortunate enough to test drive last evening. We brokered shipments of white truffles, at the tail-end of the season, with Tartufi Morra, one of the oldest purveyors in Alba, and Alessandro was such a dear that he sent me one as well.

It was delicious shaved generously over plain butter pasta and alongside the 2003 Cannubi Barolo from E. Pira e Figli Chiara Boschis, one of the grandes dames of organics in the Langhe. A hot vintage, it shed its hints of oxidation in the decanter and blossomed in the glass, with Cannubi’s characteristic elegance.

I visited this site with her on my last trip to Piedmont, and it was a delicious way to revisit the region, alongside this magical film that discusses the culture of the piemontesi and truffle hunters, one at which old age, climate change, and deforestation are chipping away. The film is a must see when it comes out next year, especially if you love dogs.
